SUPER RARE, CAST METAL, BATWING
Around the year 1950, Leroy Howell entertained the idea of producing cast metal
fish decoys to sell on a semi commercial basis. Two prototype batwing sunfish
and one trout were made but the enterprise never progressed and is forever lost to
history. Of the two sunfish made, one is natural and unpainted and one is painted
in blended shades of green. This example is unpainted and measures 4 1/2" long.
It has tin, batwing style fins and is intricately detailed with scales, eyes and gills.
This is a true "Holy Grail" for Leroy Howell collectors and is most likely a once in a
