Here is a nice, early Michigan trout that was made by an obscure carver that was
identified by John Shoffner as Gordon Jacobs. It is reported that Jacobs was a
dentist who lived and worked in Shepherd, Michigan. His work is extremely rare
and this is the only decoy of his that we have seen. It is 9" long and has clear
influences of the Cadillac style with carved gills and a carved mouth. It is painted
green on one side and red on the other with lots of black accents. The belly is
painted in a deep burgandy and the decoy has a wonderful, dry surface with
excellent patina. It is in super nice and original condition with a very small chip to
the upper tail tip and light overall wear.
